Summary
FFI partnered with UNICEF Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Food and Drug Administration (EFDA), the Food Business Innovation and Research Development Center (FBIRDC), and other technical organizations to deliver a five-day Training of Trainers workshop on internal and external quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for fortified foods in Ethiopia. The workshop brought together government regulators, food producers, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners to strengthen national capacity for implementing and monitoring food fortification programs.
The training combined classroom instruction, group exercises, case studies, and field visits to food production facilities, covering topics such as fortification standards and legislation, premix sourcing, mill equipment, quality monitoring, data collection, and multi-sectoral collaboration. By equipping participants to train others within their organizations, the workshop strengthened Ethiopia’s ability to produce safe, high-quality fortified foods and reinforced collaboration among key stakeholders working to reduce micronutrient deficiencies across the country.
