FFI participated in the Tortilla Industry Association (TIA) Convention in Temecula, California, where Scott Montgomery presented on the public health benefits of folic acid fortification and provided an update on state efforts to mandate corn masa flour fortification in the United States. The presentation also highlighted the U.S. corn masa supply chain and shared technical resources to support industry understanding of fortification.
Throughout the convention, FFI connected with tortilla manufacturers, corn masa producers, ingredient suppliers, and other industry leaders to discuss the implementation of corn masa fortification. Conversations highlighted growing momentum within the industry, with several major producers indicating plans to fortify their corn masa products. The event also provided valuable insights into technical considerations for fortification, consumer interest in the nutritional value of tortillas, and opportunities to strengthen collaboration as corn masa fortification efforts continue to expand across the United States.
