Summary
Under a World Food Programme grant, the Food Fortification Initiative (FFI) and Emory University held a two-day multisectoral workshop in Peru from May 27–28, 2026, bringing together public, private, and civil stakeholders to introduce an optimized enforcement system for salt, wheat flour, and rice fortification, while establishing tailored implementation plans and roadmaps. Grounded in key findings—such as interagency coordination gaps between CENAN and DIGESA, inconsistent social protection procurement, and regulatory misalignment—participants engaged in hands-on system simulations featuring an automated Excel calculation tool for immediate use alongside a long-term mobile application. As part of these global capacity-building efforts, FFI offers free, open-access pre-training materials that anyone can complete to build foundational expertise in regulatory monitoring. Building on this momentum and ahead of a similar workshop planned in the Dominican Republic, 89 government participants in the DR successfully completed the online flour and rice courses on July 17th, furthering national efforts to strengthen food fortification oversight (learn more via the MSP Dominican Republic release)
