In 2025, the Food Fortification Initiative (FFI), in collaboration with UNICEF and CONFAM, conducted a comprehensive Pull Strategy market assessment across Mozambique. Designed to verify compliance along the commercial supply chain, the assessment evaluated retail and market samples of mandatory fortified staples—including wheat flour, maize flour, edible oil, sugar, and iodated salt—in Maputo, Beira, and Nampula.
Working alongside local civil society partners (ProConsumers Moçambique and FDC) and testing laboratories, FFI helped identify technical, sampling, and laboratory capacity needs to strengthen regulatory oversight. On October 23, 2025, FFI hosted a dissemination workshop in Maputo with 50 key stakeholders—including food producers, government officials, and international development partners—to share the qualitative and quantitative findings and chart a roadmap for sustained fortification quality.
