Summary:
Each year in January, the International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IF), together with partners across the world, celebrates World Folic Acid Awareness Week (WFAAW). The WFAAW is a part of the IF Global Prevention Initiative, a campaign to raise awareness on how to reduce the prevalence of neural tube defects (NTDs), including spina bifida and hydrocephalus, by promoting policies and actions to ensure that all pregnancies begin with enough folate to support the development of the fetus. The WFAAW25 Webinar “Prevention of Neural Tube Defects: Leaving No One Behind”, included speakers from all over the world who shared their perspectives on how we can build a smarter, stronger, and healthier future for all through food fortification implementation.
The event showcased efforts and successes in promoting folic acid awareness and supplementation, highlighting the role of advocacy, education, and partnerships in achieving this goal. Scott Montgomery, FFI Director, presented FFI’s current work and fortification opportunities.
