On May 29th, 2023, at the 76th World Health Assembly (WHA), member nations unanimously adopted the resolution: Accelerating efforts for preventing micronutrient deficiencies and their consequences, including spina bifida and other neural tube defects, through safe and effective food fortification.
This webinar was held on May 2, 2024, with the purpose of learning more about the road to implementation for this important global initiative.
As we reach the first anniversary of the WHA resolution, this webinar brought together global partners from various disciplines, including birth defects research, nutrition, food fortification, and medicine, to share their global advocacy efforts towards implementation of the WHA food fortification resolution.
The event was moderated by Vijaya Kancherla, PhD, of the Center for Spina Bifida Prevention at Emory University, and co-hosted by the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition. A dynamic lineup of speakers was featured, including:
