Laura Rowe Joins FFI as Deputy Director

Laura Rowe has joined the Food Fortification Initiative (FFI) staff as Deputy Director to coordinate staff activities and ensure achievement of goals in FFI’s five-year strategic plan. Laura comes to FFI from Project Healthy Children (PHC) where she worked for nine years, including the last four years as President and Chief Operating Officer.

“I am thrilled to be joining FFI’s dynamic team of passionate professionals and working closely with each of them to guide global fortification programming to new heights,” Laura said.

Laura’s experiences include strengthening health systems related to fortification program design and monitoring, managing monitoring and evaluation programs, leading cross-culture teams, building technical capacity, and developing partnerships. For the past two years, Laura has led a global working group to help countries monitor their foods for proper fortification.

“We look forward to the added expertise that Laura brings to our team and the new depth of technical support we can provide to countries as they start or improve grain fortification programs,” said Scott J. Montgomery, FFI Director.

Prior to PHC, Laura worked in designing management and leadership training programs for health care professionals in Ethiopia and Liberia with Yale University. She also worked on various nutrition related projects throughout India with UNICEF and the International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD), which is now part of the Iodine Global Network.

She received a dual Master of Science and Master of Public Health in international nutrition (food policy and applied nutrition) and global public health from Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and Tufts School of Medicine. Her bachelor’s degree in ethnobotany is from Connecticut College.
