Summary
The workshop was organized to help social protection programs in the Dominican Republic commit to buying fortified rice starting in 2023. A representative of FFI, Dr. Helena Pachon, gave the keynote speech on five topics, as requested: current status of micronutrients, strategies to reduce micronutrient deficiencies, introduction to food fortification, global experiences with food fortification, and introduction and global experiences with rice fortification (in Spanish).
The workshop was an initiative of the technical table for the fortification of rice in the Dominican Republic Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance and Technical Secretariat for Sovereignty and Security Food and Nutrition (SETESSAN), with the accompaniment of the World Food Programme, and the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP).
