Wheat flour fortification has been widely implemented in countries of the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa region. However these programs could be improved to maximize the public health impact of fortification.

  • Update country information about the implementation and impact of ongoing fortification programs though reports from country representatives.
  • Build capacity of participants on how to improve the effectiveness of national food fortification programs, including monitoring and evaluation, quality control and quality assurance, legislation and technical standards.
  • Identify best practices on wheat flour fortification programs based on WHO guidelines in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
