Fortifying our Future: Regional summit for improving the health of women and children through flour fortification

Objective

This event will advocate for policy makers to take the next step toward establishing and/or enforcing mandatory wheat flour fortification in their countries. To achieve this objective, the event will use a variety of presentation methods to:

  • Share achievements, challenges and lessons learned.
  • Review evidence-informed guidelines for a regional standard.
  • Help countries align on the way forward.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Bjorn Lomborg, Director of the Copenhagen Consensus Center. He will address the economic benefits of food fortification.

Who is Expected

While flour fortification requires support from leaders in various sectors, this workshop is designed for high-level policy makers from the selected countries. Other events in the region are underway or being planned for technical training.

The priority countries for this summit are Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Tajikistan; participants are also invited from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Mongolia.
